The UWS men’s soccer team took it to Northland College in their home opener last night, beating the Lumberjacks 5-2.

The ‘Jackets got off to a quick start, leading 4-1 at halftime, then put it into cruise control in the second half to maintain a three goal victory.

Unlike Northland College who had both goals scored by one player, Ben Hughey, UWS’ scoring was spread out.  The goals were scored by junior Tyler Houghton, and sophomores Dan Warnke, Logan George, Aaron Bresser, and Thomas Schuldheisz, who also received the game ball.

Overall, the ‘Jackets played well and showed a lot of toughness.

“All of the starters, and pretty much the whole team played well today,” said senior defenseman Jack Hajewski.  “Coach wanted us hungry for today’s game, and we definitely were,” he added.

The ‘Jackets’ have another home game before traveling to Iowa this weekend, which is tomorrow afternoon at 4pm against North Central University.
