Yellowjackets upset Falcons with last second layup

The University of Wisconsin-Superior women’s basketball team traveled to UW-River Falls for a wild conference game Wednesday night and came home with their second Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win of the season. The Yellowjackets defeated the Falcons, who were ranked number 21 in the nation among Division III women’s teams, with a score of 55-54.
UWS started off slow in the first half, trailing by13 points in the first 10 minutes of play. Despite only shooting 23.3%, the Jackets were able to fight back and get within three points, going into halftime with the score 26-29.
The second half of the game saw six lead changes, with neither team able to break away. The most important change occurred at the end when Urmanski finished a layup to put the ‘Jackets up by one point with three seconds to go.
Urmanski led the Yellowjackets in scoring with 20 points, 13 of which came in the second half.
She was followed by Junior Anna Petersen, who had seven points and pulled down six rebounds.
The Jackets shot 42.9% in the second half and 50% from the three point line, while holding the Falcons to just 22.2%.
UWS is 7-11 this season (2-8 in the WIAC) and will face another conference foe this weekend when they travel to UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, January 30.
