Yellowjackets snuff out the Blue Devils

The University of Wisconsin-Superior women’s basketball team defeated the UW-Stout Wednesday, February 10 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game, 76-73.
It was a tight game with the scored tied 36-36 at the half. In the first half the ‘Jackets were led by freshman Connie Urmansksi (Edgar, WI) with nine points. She was followed closely by her teammate, junior Kelsey Thingvold (Crystal, MN), with eight points.
Thingvold also was cleaning up the glass and making it spotless with twelve rebounds in the first half, four of them being offensive. Katie Zavodny, sophomore from Boyceville, WI, was doing her part getting six points and two assists.
UWS shot 43.6% in the first half and made four of their nine three point attempts.
In the second half the game was still a tight matchup with four lead changes and neither team pulling away from the other by more than eight points.
It was a tough game, but the team stuck together and was able to pull off the win. In the second half Urmanski continued to put up points leading the team with 10 in the second half and finishing with 19.
Thingvold and Zavodny were both able to score seven more points a piece as well.
Thingvold finished the night with a double-double, posting 15 points and 17 boards.
Zavodny finished with 13 points and dished out five assists in the game.
The ‘Jackets shot 60% in the second half and hit four three-pointers out of seven attempts.
Their defense didn’t let up either, only allowing UW-Stout to shoot 37.9% in the second half.
With this win the ‘Jackets move out of last place in the conference ahead of UW-Oshkosh; who happens to be their next opponent this Saturday, February 13 in Oshkosh.
