With the University of Wisconsin - Superior Men’s basketball team heading into their Jan. 30 game at UW-Stevens Point, the Yellowjackets were sitting in the top half of the conference with a 5-5 record within the WIAC conference and an 11-7 record overall. They traveled to UW-Stevens Point to take on the Pointers hoping to avenge a 56-53 loss that occurred on January 16th at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium.
Fresh off a two game winning streak, the ‘Jackets started the game ice cold from the field. Missing their first four shots and also turned the ball over once as they failed to score in their first five possessions. On the other end of the floor, the Pointers ran out to an early 10-0 lead and never looked back as they went into the locker room at halftime with a comfortable 49-14 lead.
The Pointers continued to dominate in the second half and never allowed UW-Superior to come within 25 points and had three players score in double digits including Matt Moses who finished the game with 14 points and 6 assists for the Pointers. The ‘Jackets were handed their worst loss of the season; 74-43 with Sophomore Ben Aalfs (Guard, Hutchinson,MN) coming off the bench to lead the team with 10 points.
The Yellowjackets now get a break from their conference schedule to take on Finlandia University for an out of conference game on Tuesday. They will then host UW-Lacrosse who is currently one game ahead of the ‘Jackets in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings in third place.
