The UW-Superior Athletic Department is holding their 2nd annual Wine and Beer Showcase on Thursday, September 29, with all proceeds going to the softball team.
This fundraising event will be held at Barker's Island Inn from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $25 in advance, or for $30 at the door. According to Jon Garver, who is the Athletic Marketing and Fundraising Specialist, says that they expect to have a similar turnout as last year's showcase.
“Last year we drew over 100 people which was a great crowd for the first go-round,” Garver said. “We only create 200 tickets for the event, so if we get even close to selling out it is going to be an outstanding event and a great fundraiser for our softball program.”
Garver also says that the wine and beer that will be featured at the showcase has been donated by longtime corporate sponsors of Yellowjacket Athletics: Superior Beverages will supply the beer, and Saratoga Liquor the wine.
“It gives each of these vendors the opportunity to showcase specific wines and brews, whether they are new to their catalogs, have an interesting story behind their creation or are something that they are looking to raise the profile on in this community,” Garver explained. “None of those being sampled are made locally, although in the future it would be a neat thing if we had a show that included something brewed or made locally.”
Locally made or not, the showcase seems to be on the path to another successful turnout.
