What is Street Level Ministries

If you are seeking a quiet place where you can focus on the word of God, then Room 201 every Monday night between 7 and 8 p.m. in Yellowjacket Union (YU) is the place for you.

Street Level Ministries is a student organization that meets every week here at UW-Superior.  The organization's goal is to “teach the Word of God, discipline, and provide opportunities for fellowship, outreach, and service to UW-Superior students,” according to their website.  They have nine active members.  The organization originated on the campus of UW-Stout, but did not reach the UWS campus until 2009. Street Level Ministries is open to everyone who “longs for something more, wants to build deep and impactful relationships, wants to do something challenging and rewarding, and wants to know who God is,” says Street Level Ministries leader, Pastor Mike Lorenz of Jesus Fellowship Church in Duluth.

Events Street Level Ministries has been involved with in the past are volunteer work with the Encounter in Duluth and volunteer work at a Christian Music festival in Bushnell, Illinois called “Cornerstone.”  They have hosted a community art project in the YU, as well as a free concert in the YU featuring Zoo Animal, an Indie rock band from the Twin Cities.  They have also given away free coffee, hot chocolate, and sweet iced lattes made from their secret recipe.

Upcoming events Street Level Ministries is sponsoring are an annual Halloween Party, an event called Secret Church, concerts, and other events to be held on campus.  This year’s Halloween Party will be held Friday, October 28, and the theme will be “Movie Characters.”  Secret Church will be held at Jesus Fellowship of Believers in Duluth on November 4.  Dates for concerts and other events have not yet been decided.

If this seems like something you would like to be involved in, e-mail Kelsey Beck, the primary student contact, at kbeck2@uwsuper.edu or Heather Kahler, the organization’s advisor, at hkahler@uwsuper.edu.  Also, check out Street Level Ministries’ website at http//:www3.uwsuper.edu/streetlevel, or call 715-505-2426 for more information.
