The University of Wisconsin-Superior men’s hockey team went to Fond du Lac, Wisc. this weekend looking for a road victory against the Marian University Sabres.
The Jackets, fresh off a win over Concordia last week, came out of the gate ready to win scoring early in the first period to hold a 1-0 lead which would stay the same until the Sabres lead their delayed counterattack in the third, scoring two goals within two minutes of each other, followed by a third at the end for a final score of 3-1.
This loss brings the Jackets to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in the conference. Next week they play Eau Claire on the road, and we’ll be watching for the win.
The UW-Superior women’s hockey team faced off in a double header against Finlandia this week, taking on the Lions and hitting the ice hoping to continue their winning streak.
The first game saw the ‘Jackets scoring three times in the first period, once in the second and twice in the third. All these goals went unopposed, leaving the final score at 6-0. It’s interesting to note that all six goals were scored by different members of the ‘Jackets, making the game a true team effort.
The second game of the weekend saw the ‘Jackets sweeping the boards again, scoring once in the first and third, and twice in the second. Chelsey Wierschem and Jenn Paul were the stars of this game, each scoring two goals each for a final score of 4-0.
The ‘Jackets will face off against St. Scholastica next weekend and hope to continue to be undefeated in the conference with a 3-0 record. They are 4-1 on the season.
