The UW-Superior volleyball team downed Macalester College Tuesday night in the Yellowjackets’ home opener.

The three game match lasted a little over an hour with scores of 25-17, 25-23, and 25-15.

Head coach Lynne Deadrick said the team had some pregame jitters but overcame them and gave a solid performance.

“We passed well and we hit the ball well. We played an overall solid game,” said Deadrick.

She added that great leadership by her upperclassmen (five seniors and two juniors) will be a strength for the squad this season.

Senior outside hitter Chelsie Christofferson gave a stellar performance, recording 15 kills and committing no hitting errors.

Senior libero player Sam Blake also made an exceptional contribution with 16 digs.

UWS will host a tournament this weekend at Mertz-Mortorelli. Play begins Friday with the Yellowjackets taking to the court at 4pm and 8pm.
