A UWS student teamed up with an instructor from Lake Superior College (LSC) to create an art exhibit in Duluth on Thursday.

The art exhibit reception was complete with live music, snacks and explanations from the artists about their work. Emily Herb, a UWS senior, wanted to have her art show at Pizza Lucé in Duluth. She began the process of setting it up in February. “I called to find out if I could display my work here, and they said they were booked until November,” said Herb. “But I love this restaurant and thought it would be a great place for my [art] work.”

Once she set the exhibition for the month of November, Herb chose to invite a former teacher from LSC, Tonya Borgeson, to use the space for her work as well. “I wanted it to be a collaboration between the two of us,” said Herb. “I like mixing them up and creating a unique show. And I think our work fits well together.”

Borgeson teaches art courses at LSC along with teaching and working at her Snoodle Ceramics studio in Duluth. Herb is in the mixed media art track at UWS and has been taking   art therapy, and studio art classes for several years. The exhibit includes multi-colored clouds hanging from the ceiling, ceramic mugs, and natural objects made into art forms on the walls, such as small trees and roots. Much of the art includes some aspect of water and conservation.

The exhibit will be open to the public at Pizza Lucé on 11 East Superior Street in Duluth until the end of November.
