UWS softball team sweeps UW-Stout

The University of Wisconsin - Superoir women’s softball team traveled to Menomonie, WI on Thursday afternoon to take on the Blue Devils, and won both games, by scores of 4-2 and 17-3.

In game one, the Yellowjackets were out hit 8-6 in the game, but took advantage of an error in the first inning and a passed ball in the fifth to plate two unearned runs.  UWS also had a stellar pitching performance by senior Kalli Kucharyski, who pitched 7 innings and gave up only two runs while striking out 11.

Leading the ‘Jackets offensively were sophomore Ashley Martin, who went 3-4 with 3 runs scored, and freshman Lindsay Garay, who went 1-3 with 2 RBIs.

In game two, UWS took it to Stout with a 17-3 pounding.  They got another strong pitching performance by sophomore Amanda LeBard, who went 3 2/3 innings and gave up 2 hits and 3 runs (0 earned), and struck out 1 batter.

The ‘Jackets offense exploded in this game, and hit 4 home runs.  Senior Jen Parchem, freshman Alexis Podpeskar, and Garay all hit their third home run of the season, while freshman Emily Eisenmann connected for her first of the year.  Sophomore Taylor VanDamme, Kucharyski, and Podpeskar all scored 3 runs a piece, and Garay and Podpeskar lead UWS in RBIs with 5 and 4, respectively.

This sweep brings the Yellowjacket’s record to 18-2-1 overall and 2-0 in WIAC play.  They have a nine day layoff until their next series when they are at home for two doubleheaders against UW-Whitewater on Saturday, April 17, and UW-Stevens Point on Sunday, April 18th.
