As of Feb. 18, the University of Wisconsin-Superior offers free 24/7 online tutoring due to a recent contract that Student Support Services and the Distance Learning Center made with Tutor.com.

The online tutoring program offers a wide variety of subjects for students to get help in. The way this program works is that the student and tutor are able to work with each other in an online classroom. They are able to communicate problems through chat, an interactive whiteboard and the use of drag-and-drop shapes and formulas. Assistance with research papers and other writing assignments is also available.

 “Online tutoring is an advantage, because students have access at any time. The in-school tutoring services are only available until 6:00 p.m. on weekdays. This program gives much more flexibility for support,” said Program Manager of the UWS Academic Support Center Lon Bagley.

The inspiration for the addition of this student service came from off-campus.

 “The idea to start this program was actually brought up by distance learning students who were hoping to get help since they are away from campus and don’t have access to on-campus tutoring,” said Bagley.

He says there has been a good mixture of on-campus and off-campus students using the program and he has received good feedback from all of them.

Alexander Arnold, a senior from Pasadena, California said, “It has been very helpful for me. I’ve been able to look up info at any time and also receive help that I might not get from another source.”

He also stated that he would definitely recommend this to other students that are having problems with schoolwork.
