Music filled the Yellowjacket Union on Wednesday as the University of Wisconsin-Superior Jazz Band performed their first Jazz Lunch of the year.
The Jazz Band usually puts on four Jazz Lunches per semester. This being their first, some were anxious because they had a lot of holes to fill.
“I only started playing saxophone a month ago,” said Chelsey Pavlovich. As a percussion major at UWS, Pavlovich had only played drums and other percussion instruments before picking up the saxophone. For half of the saxophone section, this was their first experience performing with the jazz band.
However, saxophone soloist Gabrielle Anderson was very impressed with how the performance turned out. Anderson, a junior at UWS, has been involved with jazz band for over two years now.
“There were a few minor things but considering all the new members, it still went very well,” said Anderson.
The Jazz Band has more performances scheduled for this semester. Anderson mentioned that her favorite concerts to perform are night concerts at different venues. “It brings a whole new energy,” explained Anderson, as audience members eat and enjoy the jazz music and atmosphere.
