The air was brisk, but the veterans, staff and students of UW-Superior were not discouraged as they gathered around the flag pole near Catlin Avenue Friday at noon.
Shannon Gilligan led the group in the singing of the National Anthem, as Campus Safety Officer Michael Bodin solemnly raised the American and Wisconsin flags. Chancellor Wachter welcomed the crowd that had gathered, followed by a brief history of Veteran's Day.
A hush fell over those gathered as Assistant Dean of Students Tammy Fanning asked for a moment of silence and reflection.
Technology Services Director Joe Kmiech and student Tracy Tiedemann also spoke.
Bodin and Kmiech are both Veterans, and Tiedemann is currently a member of the Army National Guard.
