In the early hours of Sept. 17, a River Birch tree was planted on the southwest side of the Holden Fine Arts building as a memorial for former student April Oles.
Oles’ recent death shook the community and all those who had known her. The former University of Wisconsin – Superior student was a victim of a triple homicide last month.
“She was a dedicated student, loving mother, and an important part of UW Superior,” said a former classmate.
Faculty, students, and friends of Oles have come together to plant the tree in honor of a woman who touched many during her short life. A memorial ceremony is being planned so that people may attend come together to remember her, a specific date has not yet been set but it will be sometime in October.
There is a donation box to help pay for the tree located in the Visual Arts office, room 3101. Any donations are appreciated; even if it’s just your lucky penny.
