The 2009 WIAC Volleyball Awards were annouced last week, and University of Wisconsin - Superior Women’s Volleyball team members, Audra Stevenson and Chelsie Christofferson, each received an award.
Stevenson, a senior from Spring Lake Park, MN, was an outside hitter for the ‘Jackets. She was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team, which honors student athletes that display exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.
Stevenson was first notified about the award by her roommate and teammate Beka Morton. She was very surprised to win this award.
“I was actually proud of myself,” said Stevenson. “My parents have always stressed having a good attitudebecausein life that’s the only thing you can control.”
This was a big accomplishment for Stevenson as it was the first award she has received at the collegiate level.
Christofferson, a senior outside hitter from Buffalo Point, MB, was named to the All-WIAC women’s volleyball honorable mention team. This was after she lead the 'Jackets with 252 kills and tallied 32 blocks, 226 digs, and 26 ace serves this season.
Christofferson didn’t see herself receiving an award at the end of the season; however, it was one of many goals that pushed her forward through the season.
“I was pretty surprised. It’s always an honor getting an award at the collegiate level,” Christofferson stated.
This was not her first award; she received an honorable mention her sophomore year as well.
