Career Services teamed up with local employers Wednesday for the annual Resume Drive-Thru, where students were invited to bring rough or final drafts of their resumes for review by career services staff and employers on-site.

“Students can get resume tips from actual employers in the community,” said Career Services Director Kathy Pykkonen. “We review students' resumes all the time, but now they get to have an actual employer look at it.”

Employers at the event included Chad Hamm of AT&T. Hamm is in charge of hiring retail sales consultants for all retail stores in northern Minnesota.

Pykkonen recommends students check out Career Services website, http://www.usuper.edu/career/, as a first step in creating a resume. “We are online 24/7 with tools, resources, examples and tips from recruiters,” Pykkonen said. Students can also bring in a resume to be reviewed anytime by Career Services staff, or email it directly to Pykkonen.

Career Services is also hosting the Head of the Lakes Job Fair next Wednesday, October 5 at the University of Minnesota-Duluth's Kirby Plaza.

“It's one hundred employers in one room,” Pykkonen said. “It's a great opportunity for freshmen to do discovery, sophomores and juniors to look for internships, and seniors to look for their next career step after graduation.”

The job fair plays host to more than just employers, however. “It could be grad schools. We do have many grad schools that come to our fairs,” Pykkonen added.

If students are looking for tips on resume construction or on job searching, they can stop in to Career Services anytime in YU 230, Monday and Friday until 4:30 p.m. or Tuesday through Thursday until 6:00 p.m.
