Monday's Student Government Association meeting was one of those nights that remind you to pay attention.

SGA President Emily Borra started the meeting off with a bang, reporting on the Continuous Improvement and Planning Team. A deficit of about $2 million was mentioned, and CIPT was asking for student input on where to make cuts, suggesting programs, faculty, or services as areas to look at. Ad Hoc and overload teaching fees make up a large part of the deficit at around $900,000. The difference between a projected increase in enrollment and the actual 2% decrease accounts for about $400,000. The senators felt that they did not have enough information to address the issue, and Borra said she would send her budget information on to them.

The Continuous Improvement and Planning Team will have an open forum meeting on Monday, October 24 between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union Great Room to discuss these figures, as well as spending that hasn't been dealt with.

Another major item on the agenda was approval of student organizations. 22 organizations were approved with no discussion, having completed their paperwork on time and attended the Student Organization Summit on October 2. Commenting that this is the first time “in a while” that the paperwork has been thoroughly reviewed, 16 organizations were approved pending constitutional changes that are due at the end of October. Two organizations suffered budget cuts as penalty for missing the Student Organization Summit. Six organizations, including the Residence Hall Association, must appeal to the Chancellor's office because their constitutions do not specifically state that the organization is open to all UW – Superior students. These organizations have been granted their appeals in the past, but because records were not found substantiating this, they must appeal again.

16 organizations were scheduled to be not approved, including Circle of Native Nations, Cru, International Peace Studies Association, Social Work Student Association, and World Student Association. Representatives of two of the organizations at the meeting stated they were not aware of any communications sent to them. The organizations' disbanding was tabled pending further investigation.

In related news, a resolution was passed to have Campus Recreation serve as financial advisor and to assist all Sport Club organizations with training and other activities.

Four new Senators and a new Director and Vice Director of the Segregated University Fee Allocation Committee were sworn in, with no fireworks. Ben Mooney, Jim Choi, Tooj Vang, and Shannon McEvoy were sworn in as senators, with Marshall Hansberry and Jeffery Anderson being sworn in as Director and Vice-Director of SUFAC, respectively.
