The Amnesty International student organization at the University of Wisconsin-Superior will host a mini festival as a fundraiser to raise awareness on the issues occurring in different parts of the world, including the situation in Egypt.
On Thursday, Feb. 17, local bands are invited for the occasion to raise money for the organization. AI’s perspective will be discussed throughout the concert.
“We will have tables on these issues when artists will be playing, and T-shirts will be sold,” said Rebecca Anderson, secretary for the organization.
As an alternative goal for this event, the organization hopes to activate student’s interest in joining Amnesty International.
“Funds raised by this event will help members of the organization to attend a National Conference in April,” said Anderson. “We also want to collect creative ideas from people around campus, and create a network with activists.”
The organization will be selling tickets at the Yellowjacket Union atrium from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., until Wednesday. Tickets are also on sale at the door. Musicians include Rachael Kilgour, Brother Boot Knife of Patience, Stephan Moller, John Koep and others. Concerts start at 7:30 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union Great Room.
