Senior forward Jake Smith is a University of Wisconsin-Superior record holder after scoring 13 points in Saturday’s basketball game against the UW-Lacrosse Eagles.
Though the Yellowjackets ultimately fell to the Eagles in a 75-63 game, Smith broke the 44-year-old University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjacket basketball record and became the all-time career scoring leader. The record was previously held by UW-Superior Hall of Famer Jim Sevals, who is also one of five school athletes whose jersey has been retired.
“I have been waiting for 44 years, but this couldn’t have happened to a greater guy,” said Sevals, who had previously held the record with 1,794 points.
In honor of his achievement, Smith was awarded a banner by Sevals. The athletic department also played a tribute video.
