A happenin' time was had
by a good crowd Wednesday night at “Kid Tested! Mother Approved!” Jeredt
Runyons' new show of recent paintings and collage up in the third floor gallery
of Holden Fine Arts Building, complete with hors de ouvres and a jazz
band.
The art on display reflects Native American traditions, graffiti art and the artist's sense of responsibility to the community and the planet. Jeredt credits his family as being very inspirational, with a mother who paints, a musical brother and two creative sisters, Jelena and Hannah. While he sometimes gets caught up in a whirlwind, he works to stay grounded in the day-to-day life.
When asked about how coming back to University of Wisconsin – Superior has contributed to his work, Jeredt said; “This experience is expanding my whole world, from the way I see art to the way I interact with people. The idea to go back to school is a huge contribution not only as an artist but as a person.”
Working with collage is fairly new for Jeredt, and he enjoys the speed of it and how it builds on ideas he uses in his paintings. He says his experiences in school have also extended his use of color, style and technique.
The show runs till March 11th. Walk up the stairs, or take the elevator! I'm sure you'll approve, too.
