The University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Career Services held a Résumé Drive-Thru on Wednesday, March 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union Landing.
“The drive thru theme was to allow students to know that it would be a quick review for next week’s job fair,” said Career Services Coordinator Kathy Pykkonen.
According to Pykkonen, 37 students showed up to get advice on writing résumés.
Career Services Specialist Betsy Gregg says that an event like this can help students feel more prepared and confident to attend a job fair.
“I feel it is important for underclassmen to start thinking about their résumé and attending job fairs, because it is never too early to start. By thinking of what you are accomplishing now, you will strengthen your résumé later,” said Gregg.
UWS senior Daniel Mason attended the event in hopes of making his résumé get noticed.
“The Drive-Thru was very helpful. It showed me how to access and use the ‘Jacket Jobs Web site and also how to find good online résumé builders,” said Mason.
This was not the only opportunity students had to get assistance with résumé building.
“The Career Services office is always open to help students. You just have to make an appointment,” said Gregg. “The Drive-Thru is just nice because it doesn’t require an appointment for students to get help.”
As mentioned by Pykkonen, this event was held in preparation for the Head of the Lakes Spring Job Fair to be held at in the YU Great Room on March 10 from 2 to 6 p.m. Over 50 employers will be on campus.
