The University of Wisconsin-Superior men’s and women’s track teams headed across the bridge to the University of Minnesota Duluth this past Saturday to compete in the North Country Invite at Griggs Field.

The weather was not willing to cooperate with the athletes, but UW-Superior was still able to have a day full of great finishes. Three school records were broken at the meet.

One of the school records that were broken was the 3K, which had Scott Behling winning in a time of 8:54.14. Dan Solarz was able to place third and break the javelin record with a throw of 154 feet and 8 inches. The third record that was broken this past Saturday was at the hands of Nils Hansen. He would toss the hammer 146 feet and 4 inches, which would give him fifth place.

Kevin Olson was able to finish second in the long jump with a jump of 19 feet and 3.5 inches. Matt Reijo also placed second, crossing the finish line in a time of 56.90 seconds in the 400 meter hurdles.

On the women’s side of things, Katie Capriglione improved upon her national provisionally qualifying mark in the hammer throw with a throw of 160 feet and 10 inches. Capriglione was also able to finish fourth in the shot put.

Whitney Wise placed second in the high jump with a jump of 4 feet and 9 inches. Alyssa Breu was able to cross the finish line fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.03. Danielle Anderson finished in fourth place in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:13.91.

The Yellowjacket women travel to the Twin Cities this Wed., April 27 to take part in the Hamline University Twilight meet, while the Yellowjacket men will also be in the Twin Cities this coming Wednesday to compete in the Macalester College Twilight meet.
