Ready... set... donate!

The University of Wisconsin Superior is in a contest against the University of Minnesota-Duluth, St.Scholastica and Lake Superior College.

The challenge is for anyone to donate their used or new hats, mittens and scarves to UWS, and the college that receives the most donations will win a trophy.

The drive is sponsored by the Circle of Native Nations and the office of Multicultural Affairs. The donated items will be divided up into three groups and donated to three local charities in the Duluth and Superior area.

The Diversity/First Nations office from each campus started meeting last October to figure out a way to give back to the community and make positive impacts.

Ivy Vainio, who is a Multicultural specialist on the UWS campus, is helping with the charity drive.

“The drive brings students together who are participating in the challenge,” said Vainio.

Vainio explained that once the clothing items are split into three groups, the Circle of Native Nations travels in a van to each charity and hands out the donations.

A couple of the local charities that will receive donations are the Salvation Army of Superior, Wisconsin and the Chum Center (Churches United in Ministry) in Duluth, Minnesota. The Chum Center is an organization that helps people in need and who are living in poverty.

The items will be collected in Old Main 230, Sundquist 147 and the Residence Life Offices. There will also be boxes set up in each residence hall.

The deadline is December 4. For more information, contact Ivy Vainio at 715-394-8415.
