Player of the Week: Jessica Zimmerman
by Lucas Kraft, Staff Writer
Jessica Zimmerman has been selected as the Stinger’s player of the week for hard work and effort in the University of Wisconsin- Superior volleyball tournament this last weekend.
Zimmerman is a freshman from Monticello, Minn. She contributed a lot during the tournament as an outside hitter. She was very consistent with her severs getting most of them in play and helping out in any way she can.
“I am able to contribute to the team by always being ready to fill any role on the court. I keep a positive attitude and give everything I have at all times no matter what my role is,” said Zimmerman.
Being a freshman she had to make a big transition from the high school level to the college level and is getting used to it very well.
“I think I got a feel for the speed of the game from my club team this past winter,” explained Zimmerman, “The freshmen class on the UWS volleyball team has all been learning together and that helps too. The transition gets easier as time goes by.”
Jessica’s passion might be volleyball, however she also enjoys listening to music, exploring Duluth and spending time with friends. She is always looking for something fun to do.
“I still want to find activities on campus to get involved in,” she said.
One activity on campus activity she may be interested in is intramural sports such as softball. She says it‘s the sport she‘d like to play if not for her involvement in volleyball.
“I wasn't playing I would have to say I would most likely play softball. Softball has also been a big part of my life for around 8 years so I would stay active with that,” said Zimmerman.
Zimmerman hopes to continue improving throughout the year along with the team. You can see her and her fellow Yellowjackets in their next game on Fri., Sept. 17 against UW-Stevens Point at UW-Superior.
