Picture poll: Winter Olympics 2010

While walking through the Yellowjacket Union, you may have noticed some of the televisions tuned into the Winter Olympics, which are currently being hosted in Vancouver, Canada.  This week’s picture poll asked University of Wisconsin - Superior student’s what their favorite sport is to watch and how many medals they think the USA will get.

Thomas Shuldheisz, a sophomore majoring in criminal justice, likes to watch the snowboarding super pipe.  “I like to snowboard a lot and it is the most entertaining,” he said.  He also thinks the USA will come out with 30 medals by the end of the Olympics.

Although she has never tried it, Shristi Bajracharya, a senior social work major thinks her favorite Olympic sport snowboarding looks easy and interesting!  In the end, she hopes the USA comes out winning 33 medals.

“It’s nice to see such athletic people and they all come together to play,” stated Emily Eisenmann, an art education freshman.  She wondered if the USA could possibly pull of 27 medals this year.

“A lot of strategy,” commented Tim Berg regarding the sport of curling, “it is a lot like the game of chess.”  The senior sociology major also picked free-style skating as another winter Olympic favorite.  He believes the USA will earn 22 total medals.

Alexis Podpeskar commented how free-style skiing is so crazy.  “It is unbelievable how they can hold their composure,” the freshman said.  She can’t believe how hard it looks on their knees too!  She guesses that the USA will win 25 medals.
