This semester Ostrander Hall was victim to a handful of vandalism incidents, all within a month of each other.
The vandalism included explicit drawings on the doors of female residents and the walls on the second and third floors. Ostrander Hall houses mostly freshmen except for the second floor, and both the second and third floors are all women. The first and third floors are also locked during certain hours. Director of Public Safety Gary Gulbrandson said Campus Safety worked with Residence Life to address the issue, but according to Shannon McEvoy, Senator of the Department of Communication and Visual Arts, some female residents still do not feel safe living there.
Although the vandalism was removed, most cases like these are closed, meaning “no further actions taken in this matter/case.” You can find out the outcome of cases like these through the UWS daily crime log from the Department of Public Safety at http://www.uwsuper.edu/safety/clery/dailycrimefirelog.cfm. Hopefully next semester dorm vandalism incidents will cease so that residents will feel more safe in their homes away from home.
