Budget Lapse = Community Lapse

A “lapse,” you say.
Winterfest is a time for the campus and the community to come together. It's a big deal. There's no parking for blocks and blocks. Families come to spend a little time here. Little kids come and run around like little kids. Even I, the ultimate non-joiner, recognize that this is an important event – because it brings together the campus and the surrounding community.
I've noticed this “lapse.” I've noticed Kruk gallery not open for its previously scheduled times. I'm hearing stories about, “Don't print that!” The library has cut hours. Pep band is cancelled.
But this “lapse” cuts into important ties to the community. Without the support of the people of Superior, our lives as students will be lessened. We depend on the goodwill of the people around us.
I think somebody owes us – campus and community - an apology and an explanation.
