No messing around on spring break

The University of Wisconsin-Superior baseball team returned from a seven game tournament in Vero Beach, Florida with a record of 5-2.
The Yellowjackets beat teams from Maryland, Iowa, and New Hampshire. The ’Jackets were able to get it done both offensively and defensively while in the sunshine state.
UWS scored over ten runs in three of the seven games and had one shutout game. A few guys that really stood out swinging the bat in Florida were Mike Labelle, Mitch Loegering and Sean Cummings. All three hit over .400 over spring break.
Labelle (Jr., OF, Thunder Bay, ON) led the team batting .522 with 12 hits out of 23 at bats. Labelle also had eight RBI’s (runs batted in).
Loegering (Jr. OF, Big Lake, MN) hit .444 with three RBI’s.
Cummings (Sr., 3B, Superior, WI) swung a .414, drove in four runs, and recorded a home run.
Joe Ahrens, (Soph., 1B, Worthington, MN) also batted well at .304. Arhens had eight RBI’s and a home run.
Time on the mound for UWS was widely spread out between twelve guys but a few did stand out.
T.J Wink (Sr., P, Glenwood City, WI) was able to get two wins in Vero Beach, pitching 9.2 innings and striking out six with only five walks.
Along with Wink, Mike Swanson (Soph., P, Superior, WI) and Nick Bursik (Soph., P, Woodbury, MN) were able to record wins.
Bursik led with strike outs, sitting eight people down. Alex Lagadin, (Sr., P, Thunder Bay, ON) also had an impressive showing on the mound, tallying five strikes in just three innings.
Overall the team played well in Florida bringing their record to 6-3 heading into a four-game weekend trip to the Chicago area where they will face North Park University and North Central University.
