After a great start to the season, the University of Wisconsin-Superior men’s Soccer team has found its fair share of struggles recently.
On Oct. 2, the Yellowjackets were shut out at home by Augsburg College 2 to 0. Ben Wexler and Owen Byrnes scored the goals for Augsburg. This loss dropped the Jackets to 6-3-1 on season.
However, the ‘Jackets quickly rebounded as they outlasted the Hamline Pipers 2 to 1 in St. Paul on Oct. 6 behind goals by Matt Nilsen and Nate Engel. The win marked UW-Superior’s seventh of the season and put them four games above 500.
Oct. 10 marked the Yellowjackets’ first conference loss of the season as they were shut out for the second time in three games, this time by UW-Oshkosh bringing the ‘Jackets record to 7-4-1, 1-1 for the season.
Most recently on Oct. 10 in Superior the Yellowjackets dueled to a 1 to 1 tie with St. John’s University. Thomas Shuldheisz scored the lone goal for UW-Superior as their record stands at a respectable 7-4-2, 1-1 after thirteen games.
With only seven games left in the regular season the Yellowjackets hope to get on a roll and to do that they will need to be able to win on the road as they are heading on the road to take on UW-Platteville on Oct. 16 at 3:00 p.m. and then will be on the road on Oct. 20th in Northfield, Minn. to face St. Olaf College.
