Men's soccer team continues strong start to season

by Tony Potter, Sports Writer

After the strong start to the 2010 season, the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjacket Men's Soccer team has continued to thrive.

On Saturday, September 11, the Yellowjackets traveled to Winona, Minn. to take on St. Mary's University. Royce and Shuldheisz led UW-Superior with two goals each, giving them both three on the season. Richard Chewgin also added a goal; his second of the year. Tyler Houghton and John Levenick each scored their first goals of the season as the 'Jackets dominated St. Mary's 7 to 0. This improved the Yellowjackets to 3-1 on the season.

next up was a trip to Lacrosse to take on viterbo University on Sunday, September 12. This game proved a little tougher for UW-Superior as they fell 2 to 1 and dropped to 3-2 on the season. Richard Chewgin (3) had the only goal of the game for the Yellowjackets. Tom Snow and James Lackley produced the two goals for Viterbo.

After the though loss on Sunday, the 'Jackets got back to the grindstone on Wednesday, September 15 and picked up a hard fought 1 to 0 overtime victory against the St. Thomas Tommies. Ben Royce (4) scored the only goal of the game as the Yellowjackets improved to 4-2 after 6 games.

Looking ahead for UW-Superior, they host the Jamestown College Jimmies (0-2-2) on Friday, September 17 at 4:30 pm. Then they are off until next Friday, September 24, when they host Upper Iowa University at 4:00 pm.
