The University of Wisconsin - Superior men’s hockey team went on the road to Eau-Claire, WI on Saturday, in attempt to tie the Bluegolds for last place in the conference, but they ended in a 3-3 tie, which separated the two teams by two points, leaving UWS in last place for the conference tournament.
Neither team was able to light the lamp in the first period, but just 42 seconds into the second period UWS would strike first on a shorthanded goal by freshman Justin Farnya. UWEC would then score two goals in just over three minutes to take a 2-1 lead. Senior Josh Seifert would then score midway through the period to tie the game at two. The Bluegolds would then score with just over a minute to play in the period, and took a 3-2 lead into the third period.
The third period would be relatively quiet until the 14:33 mark when senior Braden Desmet would tie the game at three for the Yellowjackets. Neither team would be able to put any offense together in the overtime session, and the game would end in a 3-3 tie.
Sophomore goaltender Bryan Dalbec would get the start in net, and would stop 32 of the 35 shots he faced in 65 minutes, including 2 saves in overtime.
Seifert lead the ‘Jackets with a goal and an assist in his final regular season game.
The tie brings UWS’ record to 9-11-5 over and 3-11-4 in NCHA play. The tie marks the end of the regular season with UWS taking last in the conference. They will face cross bridge rival St. Scholastica in Duluth on Friday and Saturday night in the first round of the conference tournament.
