Cross-bridge rival St. Scholastica completed a season sweep of the Yellowjacket men’s hockey team, beating UW-Superior at home 4-1 on February 11.
The game was a lot closer than the 4-1 score indicates. Both teams came out strong, but the Saints lit the lamp first at the 15:44 mark in the first period, and took that lead into the first intermission. They then scored 14 minutes into the second period to take a 2-0 lead.
The ‘Jacket’s offense was silenced in the majority of the two periods, but finally scored on a power play goal by senior Logan Isley with two and half minutes left to go in the period. CSS took the 2-1 lead into the third period, and would not let it go.
The third period was filled with scoring chances by both teams, but neither team could get one to go, until six minutes left in the period when the Saints sealed the game with a goal to take a 3-1 lead.
UWS wasn’t able to mount a comeback, and St. Scholastica added an empty netter with 10 seconds left in the game to make the final score 4-1.
Sophomore goaltender Bryan Dalbec played was in the net for the ‘Jakcets. He turned away 16 out of the 19 shots he faced in the game. He has been playing consistently well in the past couple weeks, but it comes at an unlucky time as the ‘Jackets offense has been silenced.
This brings UWS’ record to 9-11-4 overall and 3-10-3 in the NHCA. They will look to play well this weekend in their final regular season game when they travel to UW-Eau Claire on Saturday.
