The University of Wisconsin - Superior men’s hockey team continued their non-conference winning streak this weekend by beating Lawrence University 6-2.

UWS got on the board first, with freshman Justin Faryna (Calgary, AB) scoring the lone goal in the first period.

After Lawrence scored two early goals in the second period, taking the lead, senior captain Tyler Fletcher (Calgary, AB) and the ‘Jackets took over. UWS scored four unanswered goals to end the second period, with Fletcher lighting the lamp three times for a hat trick.

UWS would add a goal in the third period, making the score 6-2. This would be all of the scoring goaltender Jim Patterson (Kamloops, BC) would need to earn his third straight victory.  Patterson played another solid game in net and has seemed to get into a groove, stopping 28 of 30 shots faced on Saturday.

Aside from Fletcher’s hat trick, the scoring was spread out for UWS.  Four other ‘Jackets ended with two points.

Junior Jesse Junkermeier (Minnetonka, MN), had a goal and an assist.

Freshmen Kyle Leahy (Fort St. John, BC) and Josh Kesler (Naperville, IL) and senior Braden Desmet (Strathmore, AB) added two assists each.

After a tough start to the season, the ‘Jackets seem to be firing on all cylinders in their last three games, outscoring their opponents 19-7 and improving their overall record to 3-2.

UWS hopes to continue their hot streak next weekend when they get back into NCHA play, hosting UW-Eau Claire on November 20 and 21 at Wessman Arena.
