After getting off to a rough start to the season, the University of Wisconsin - Superior men’s hockey team skated to two victories this weekend: a 7-2 win against Concoridia College on Friday night and a 6-3 victory against St. John’s Universtiy on Saturday.

In game one, UWS got off to a fast start against Concordia, scoring three goals in the first period and another two early in the second to make it a 5-0 lead five minutes into the second period.

Goaltender Jim Patterson (junior, Kamloops, BC) took over from there, stopping 26 of 28 shots in his first start as a Yellowjacket while earning his first UWS win. UWS added two goals in the third period and finished the romp over Concordia.

Senior Braden Desmet (Strathmore, AB) finished with four points (1G, 3A), and Freshman Thomas Erlacher (Brunico, Italy) finished with three points himself (2G, 1A).

In game two of the weekend on Saturday afternoon, it was more of the same from the ‘Jackets.  Having another huge first period, they had a solid 4-0 lead when the first horn sounded.  This again was major help for Patterson, who stopped 19 of 22 shots faced and earned his second win in two starts for the Yellowjackets.

St. John’s cut the lead to 4-2 in the second period, but UWS was too much for the Jonnies, notching two more goals in the third and taking the win.

The scoring was very spread out for the ‘Jackets, with seniors Art Clark (Bloomington, MN) and Chris Wilson (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) and Freshman Derek Stauber (Duluth, MN) each notching a goal and an assist.

The Yellowjackets’ next game is on Saturday (Nov. 14) at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI before they come back home to Wessman to take on UW-Eau Claire on November 20 and 21.
