Former Yellowjacket student-athlete Marty Niles of Frederic, WI passed away on September 6th, after a long battle with cancer.
Marty was a pitcher on the baseball team at UWS in 2008, which was his junior year in school. He was an avid outdoorsman and tremendous athlete at Frederic High School, Vermillion Community College, and UWS.
His battle with cancer really showed the strength and resiliency he had, just like when he was on the field. No UWS baseball player will ever wear the number 20 that Niles wore, as Coach Morgan has decided to retire the number in his honor.
He was a hard worker and great teammate while at UWS, and he will be greatly missed by all family and friends who were touched by his presence.
The services to celebrate his life were held this past weekend, with a visitation on September 11, and the funeral on September 12 at Frederic High School.
