Joe Eickman, often referred to simply as "Campus Safety Joe", has been a Campus Safety officer here at UWS since 2009--January 5th, 2009, to be exact. He is a police officer and has a lot of entertaining stories to share from his experiences thus far at UWS. Let's get to know Campus Safety Joe...

1) Where did you go for police training?
Well, it was quite a process since I started my career in Minnesota. First, I got my Bachelors degree in Criminology at UMD. Then, I took classes at Fond du Lac Community College in Cloquet for Law Enforcement so I could take the state test and be certified in Minnesota. I worked for the Duluth Police Department for six months. When I got hired here, I had to go to Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay for two weekends so I could take a test to be certified in Wisconsin. It wasn't too tough, though.

2) What's your favorite thing about the new Campus Safety vehicle?
I like the look of it better than our last one, which was a white car. There are more lights on it, so we are more visible. Also, it has four-wheel drive and more interior room for us.

3) Are you excited about the upcoming holiday season?
Yes, I don't have any big plans, though. Just spending time with my family.

4) Do you have any kids?
Yeah, I have a six-month old daugther named Madison. This will be her first Christmas. She is getting a lot of noisy toys and books this year.

5) What was your favorite cartoon when you were a kid?
Imagine this--G.I. Joe! I had MANY G.I. Joe dolls, too.

6) What's the most interesting call you've received while working at UWS?
It was Christmas 2009. I received a radio transmission from someone at the Superior Police Department. She was laughing and asked me to call her. She said that there was a goat walking around by the Newman Center at 16th and Baxter Street. When I went over there, I was face-to-face with a goat. Five people from the Superior Police Department and I drove around for an hour trying to catch that goat. It was finally caught the next morning.

7) Do you have big New Years plans?
Nope, no plans at all. I don't want to be out driving that night!

8) If you won a million dollars today, what is the first thing you would do with the money?
This will make me sound old, but I would pay off my house and put Madison through school.

9) What advice would you give you a stranger?
Stay on the right side of the law or you'll meet me!
