“Despite the weather, it truly is a beautiful day in Superior, Wisconsin, as we celebrate this opening,” Chancellor Julius Erlenbach said to the crowd of approximately 250 who gathered at the Jim Dan Hill Library for its grand opening Saturday, October 10.
Interim Library Director Deb Nordgren welcomed students, alumni, donors, and many others at the event, and also thanked them for attending the historic event.
“It has taken many years of planning for us to get to this point, and we are so proud and grateful that today we are able to officially open the newly-renovated Jim Dan Hill Library,” she announced.
Following Nordgren’s welcome was a traditional Native American Honor Song performed by the Little Otter Singers, many thank you’s, and remarks from donor Hal Mattson, Senator Robert Jauch and Representative Nick Milroy, all of whom are alumni of the University. Student Body President Logan Campa and Pete Zirbel of River Architects shared their perspectives as well.
“It’s marvelous,” Campa remarked after the ceremony. “I’ve not heard a student say anything bad about it yet…I think if people really want to know what it’s like to be in the library they can just show up and they’ll understand how the students really feel about it.”
The grand opening closed with a reading by Barton Sutter and another thank you from Nordgren, as well as the ribbon cutting which marked the official opening of the Jim Dan Hill Library.
