This weekend’s sweep of the St. Scholastica Saints (9-17-1, 4-14-1) sends the UWS Yellowjackets (15-11-1, 10-8) to the NCHA semifinals. The ‘Jackets defeated the Saints 4-2 on Friday and 5-2 on Saturday.
The ‘Jackets were lead on the weekend by Pat Dalbec’s three goals and one assist. Joey Massingham also recorded four points. Kyle Leahy and Talon Berlando both had two goals and one assist.
‘Jacket fans erupted after the final buzzer as they knew that there team was moving on. The success of the men’s hockey team is important to the black and yellow faithful since none of the ‘Jacket teams have had a lot of postseason success since the men’s hockey team did two years ago.
Another reason that this success has fans excited is that this team is extremely young with 21 of the 26 players being just freshmen and sophomores. Knowing that a team can play well and have success when its core is young gives everyone hope that there could be a bright future on the ice for the ‘Jacket men.
Next up for the Yellowjackets is a clash with the UW-Stevens Point Pointers (13-13-1, 8-9-1) at Wessman Arena on February 26th at 7:05PM. UWS has defeated Stevens Point during two of their three matchups so far this season. Both of the ‘Jackets wins came at home, which is where this semifinal matchup will be held.
Tickets for this matchup are ten dollars for adults and seven dollars for students. For this matchup, even UWS students are required to pay as this is an NCHA sponsored event. Tickets will go on sale Friday, February 25th at noon, which will last until 5:00PM. Presales will reopen again on Saturday at the same time. All presales will take place at Wessman Arena.
