The University of Wisconsin-Superior baseball team traveled to UW-Oshkosh to face the Titans for their first conference match up April 10 and 11. The Yellowjackets ended up splitting the series 2-2.
The ‘Jackets were successful with their bats and pitching. Paul Schlangen (SR, OF, Rice, MN) submitted his resume in for WIAC player of the week with a stellar performance hitting at .476 by going 10 for 21 at the plate. He was also able to drive in 12 RBIs and hit two homeruns in the four game span.
Brett Olson (SR, C, Eau Claire, WI) also had a great weekend on offense. Olson hit .500 going eight for 16 with seven RBIs and one homerun.
One other ‘Jacket hit a homerun over the weekend and that was Mitch Loegering (JR, OF, Big Lake, MN). Loegering went seven for 17, hitting .412 with one homerun and two RBIs. With the bats swing the Yellowjackets were able to score 45 runs over the four game span, including 21 in the final game of the series.
On the mound the ‘Jackets were lead by T.J. Wink (SR, Glenwood City, WI). In seven and a third innings Wink had eleven strikeouts, six walks and only one earned run. Wink also got his fourth win of the season, keeping him undefeated on the mound.
Alex Lagadin (SR, P, Thunder Bay, ON) was awarded the other win for the ‘Jackets, striking out four batters and only walking one.
UWS played well in Oshkosh and left tied against a very good baseball team that consistently ranks among the top in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
With the two wins, UWS now holds a record of 9-8 overall, and 2-2 in the conference as they look to their next conference opponent, UW-Stevens Point, whom they will take on April 17 and 18 in Stevens Point.
