The University of Wisconsin - Superior women’s hockey team’s scoring problems continued Tuesday night as they were shutout 2-0 by the University of St. Thomas Tommies.

The first two periods of the game were defensive duels as both teams’ defense corps and goaltenders were on top of their game. Both teams also squandered scattered power play chances between the two periods.

The action did not start until the 3rd as 1:13 into the frame, Tommies Meghan Parker put a quick shot past senior Melissa Kunzelman to give the Tommies the 1-0 lead. A

fter the goal however, the Jackets dominated the action. In all, they threw 16 shots at Tommies goaltender Nicole Muske while the defense only allowed a measly 4 shots. The 16 shots were not enough however as Muske stood on her head and turned away the 29 total shots she faced all night.

The Tommies scored an empty net goal with 33 seconds left in the game to seal the 2-0 victory.

Kunzelman ended the game with 16 saves and lowered her Goals against Average to 1.41. T

he Jackets have now been shut out in 2 of the last 5 games while only scoring 6 goals in that span. The loss drops the Jackets record to 11-8-2 overall with a 5-5-2 conference record.

The Jackets will now jump right back into action as they play two pivotal conference games this coming weekend in Fond Du Lac, WI against Marian University.
