On Wednesday, Oct. 28, an internship panel gave advice to students about building their future.
“The internship panel is a way for students to ask professionals some questions that they have,” said Career Services Coordinator Kathy Pykkonen. “They also let students know what they look for and how to find internships.”
Panelists included Stephen Shaner of DRTC and Health Partners, Louise Alholm of Allete and Jason Castle of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network.
“The world needs future leaders like you guys,” Shaner said to the students. “And the best way to do that is to be successful.”
As students asked questions like where to find the perfect job, networking skills and how to go into interviews, the panelists answered with advice that guided the students on how to do certain things.
“They gave us great tips on how to be successful with our business,” said student Sraoj Dhital. “They answered a lot of questions that we had and it was overall helpful.”
Shaner mentioned a website to the students titled Linkedin, which is a networking site, like Facebook, for professional business workers. Shaner went on to explain that the website can help one to build their networking skills and résumés and search for jobs
“I think that more people should do this,” said student Lindsey Kerschen. “This event helped us learn more about the interviewing process and to develop skills for the future.”
