In a mass email to University of Wisconsin-Superior students, Interim Chancellor Christopher Markwood announced he would be leaving the University in March to take the position as provost and vice president of academic affairs at Texas A&M University-Chorpus Christi.
"It has been a pleasure and an honor to be part of such a wonderful campus at a time of so much change and progress. That progress would not have been possible without the commitment and dedication of many faculty, staff members, and students who have worked tirelessly to help move the institution forward," Markwood wrote.
Since former Chancellor Julius Erlenbach stepped down from his position this summer, Markwood has served as interim chancellor for the University. He will continue to serve in this position until March 11, 2011.
"Over the next four months I will work with campus and UW-System leadership to ensure a smooth continuation of this year’s agenda including our search for the next Chancellor," Markwood wrote.
According to a press release from the University, a new interim chancellor will be named before Markwood leaves campus. A chancellor search team hopes to have a new, permanent chancellor named by next summer.
Markwood joined the UW-Superior community in 2006 as provost, dean of faculties and vice president of academic affairs.
"The educational experience you receive at UW-Superior is truly special," Markwood said.
