We asked five students what they thought about the Differential Tuition Referendum, which students are voting on Wednesday, December 9 and Thursday, December 10.

Bradley Apfel

Grade: Freshman
Major: Criminal Justice
Yes or No
Why? “I don’t have the finances to pay for my college already, so raising tuition is a bad idea.”

Sarah Mehnke

Grade: Freshman
Major: Undeclared
Yes or No
Why? “I had to take out two loans for tuition and I got financial aid, but it didn’t cover it all, so I don’t want it to increase because then some students won’t be able to afford to come back.”

Caleb Nicholson

Grade: Senior
Major: Legal Studies
Yes or No
Why? “I personally would vote for the differential tuition increase. In challenging economic times, tough decisions have to be made. I would rather pay an extra $115.50 per semester than have my education suffer.”

Theresa Raab

Grade: Junior
Major: Biology
Yes or No
Why? “There’s no way we could keep tuition rates down in order to keep up with other universities academically.”

Emmanuel Tucker

Grade: Sophomore
Major: Interactive Design
Yes or No
Why? “I find that higher tuition is very harmful for those in the low-income range, and it is for that reason that I’m leaning toward no.”
