The University of Wisconsin - Superior Chancellor Julius Erlenbach announced on Monday morning that he would not be returning to UWS next year.
Erlenbach plans to leave the University on Aug. 1 of this year. In an email to UWS students and staff this morning, Erlenbach wrote,
“ I write today to tell you that, indeed, I am retiring from my position as your chancellor effective August 1, 2010. I have informed President Reilly of my intentions, and I know he will begin the selection process for your next chancellor very soon. It has been an honor to work with you over these past fourteen years, and I think we can take great pride in the progress we have made. I wish you all of the very best for the future, and I look forward to following the continuing good progress of our university in the coming years.”
In the letter and in press releases from the University, Erlenbach did not disclose his reason for retirement.
Erlenbach became chancellor for UWS on Aug. 1, 1996. Throughout his career on the campus, he’s been involved with a number of projects, including the recent building boom that the campus has seen.
According to UW System President Dr. Kevin P. Reilly, UWS Provost Christopher Markwood will take the position of interim chancellor after Erlenbach’s retirement. The University is hoping to elect a new chancellor by the summer of 2011.
