The track season for UW-Superior is underway and it looks to be a promising year for the Jackets. With their second meet completed this past weekend in the Marcovich Wellness Center, the Jackets set many seasonal bests, along with some personal bests.

The women’s team set 14 seasonal bests and 11 personal bests. They also had 13 top ten finishes, highlighted by Katie Capriglione and Traelynn Lewis. Capriglione threw 15.95 meters in the weight throw competition, which currently places her at number 11 in the NCAA and fourth in the WIAC conference. Lewis also had a nice performance jumping 11.49 meters in the triple jump. She is at the top of the conference and sixth in the NCAA for triple jump.  She also set a school record with the jump, along with a meet and facility record. Other notable performances were the Sprint Medley Relay who finished second in a time of 4:39.34, while Rachel Rossiter finishedseventh in the pole vault, with a vault of 8 feet, 6.75 inches.

On the men’s side, there were 17 seasonal bests and 11 personal bests. The men had 18 top ten finishes to complete the weekend. The men were lead by Matt Reijo in the 200m hurdles, who recorded a personal best time of 26.26. There were also three top three performances. The men’s 4x400 meter relay recorded a seasonal best at 3:33.48, along with the Sprint Medley Relay, that also had a seasonal best with a time of 3:45.49. The other athlete placing in the top three for the Jackets was Shane Trentor in the triple jump. He had a leap of 41 feet, 0.25 inches, a personal best for him.

The Jackets are in action again at UW-Stout on Saturday, where they hope to improve upon these results as the season goes on.
