The 15th annual event of UW-Superior, Cultural Night 2011, came again this year without exception the last Saturday night.

Traditional foods of each country, pre-show performances and the Talent show satisfied all visitors including the UWS students and resident people around the campus. International and native students opened the Talent show with the greeting comments in their own languages by waving national flags on the stage in Thorpe Langley Auditorium, Old Main. With the theme of the Cultural Night, “World in Color,” each performer showed diverse cultures. The various kinds of shows were brought on the stage. Chinese, Nepali, Japanese, Brazilian and more international students introduced their own culture with the traditional dance, music, or fashion shows. Terry Walker from Saint Paul said “It was a great show. The Japanese fishery song with dancing was very impressing, and I was surprised that American students performed Japanese traditional dance with Japanese students” Also, Korean students conveyed the theme again of the late part of the cultural night by showing card section which presented the massage, “We Are the One” with 25 flags in the last part of their performance.

The audience burst into applause as the show ended and they couldn’t leave easily their seats after the show. Samantha Licht, the Senior of UWS said, “It was awesome! I was inspired by the incredible diversity we have and by the way people from all over the world come together. My favorite parts are the Japanese dance, the Korean song and the flag ceremony which always makes me tear up because it’s so beautiful. I loved everything about tonight.”

The 15th Cultural Night showed people can learn how they shared the different culture and enjoyed diversity through this event.
