Student Seth Toleen gets advice from dietician Sherie Nelson.
If there is one thing that all students can agree on, it’s the fact that college is busy. Going from class to class, class to work, and work to homework, there isn’t always time to focus on what we eat. Luckily, UWS food service by A'viands has an answer.
A'viands has Field Support Dietitian Sherie Nelson on campus to help show students that there are plenty of healthy choices in meal planning to be had on campus.
“I understand student life,” said Nelson. “Sometimes you just grab what’s there to have, so we want healthy choices in reach.”
At her desk outside of the cafeteria entryway in the Rothwell Student Center, Nelson is open to questions about anything dietary related. Over the last year she has worked with many students both on and off campus with concerns varying from how to eat healthy in the cafeteria, how the A'viands service can accommodate special needs such as diabetes and food allergies, and how off-campus students can cook and eat healthier at home.
A’viands has also planned a variety of programs for the students, such as the upcoming healthy stir fry cooking lesson on Wednesday, September 30 at noon in the RSC cafeteria. The program will consist of a live cooking demonstration by Chef Patrick Moore, accompanied by a presentation by Nelson on the practicality and healthy habits of eating a balanced meal.
Nelson is scheduled to be on campus on Wednesdays from 11 am to 2 pm, but she stresses that any students who cannot meet during her scheduled hours may call or email her to make an appointment.
For more information on how to take advantage of this opportunity on campus, feel free to contact the email address below or to stop by the Field Support desk outside the cafeteria.
