The Great Room of the Yellowjacket Union turned in to a concert arena February 4th, when the band 3rd Avenue took the stage in order to raise money for the 10 students and one adviser going on the Alternative Spring Break trip.
About 40 staff members, students and parents were entertained by 3rd avenue, who played songs by many different groups from Greenday and Nickelback to CCR and the Beatles.
The goal was to raise 300 dollars for the Alternative Spring Break trip, also called the ABS trip, to Portland, Maine.
Some unique ways that ASB group was raising money was by selling raffle bags which included $100 off housing this semester, one night at Fairfield Inn, a $10 gift card to Grizzly’s, and a bike tune up valued at $40.
The group will spend over 24 hours driving one way, going through the upper peninsula of Michigan and Canada to get to Portland.
The trip includes building homes for families that can’t afford to pay for the labor. While the ASB team won’t be able to complete an entire home in the days they will spend in Maine, they will be putting in valuable work.
One of the students involved in the ASB trip, that is in charge of the event is Aaron Wainman.
“The reason I do it is because it is helping providing a homebuilder with the labor because that is where most of the money is spent in building a home,” said Wainman.
The following students will be going to Portland, Maine over spring break:
Kelly Bergstrom
Melanie Bradshaw
Samantha Licht
Nick Loining
Cory Mareno
Lindsey Schiff
Savannah Smith
Monte Stewart
Katie Thill
Aaron Wainman (student leader)
