After graduating college, many students face the real world in finding a job. This may be a hard time for students who do not have proper preparation for finding that dream career. Here at UWS, in room 21 of the Rothwell Student Center, Coordinator of Career Services Kathy Pykkonen and her staff will help prepare students for the real world experience of finding a job.
“Here at Career Services we help students with resumes, interviewing skills, proper etiquette, networking skills, and more,” said Pykkonen. “It's a great way for students to prepare for when they have to do this in the real world.”
The Career Services center is open to anyone.
“Career Services is for students, alumni, or anyone who has attended UWS,” said Career Services Specialist Betsy Gregg. “We can give people resources and help them discover what they want to do in the future.”
New students all the way up to alumni are encouraged to log into Jacket Jobs, a quick-link found on the Career Services website, which helps students find jobs, internships, volunteer opportunities, and more.
“Jacket Jobs is free for every student, and all you have to do is activate it,” said Career Resources Specialist Paul Splinter. “On Jacket Jobs, you can build a resume, find a career abroad, talk to a career mentor, and register for events.”
Another great way to see what Career Services has to offer is attending events that they hold. Some of the events include: Majors and Opportunities Market on Oct. 15, Head of the Lakes Job Fair on Oct. 21, and Dining with Professionals: Etiquette Dinner and Fashion Show on Nov. 11. For more information, log onto the career services website.
