Third annual Body Challenge starts war against fat

By Billy Heins

On Friday, September 18 at 6:00 pm, the Third Annual Body Challenge started off with the Meet and Greet event.  This is the first time that there has been an event like this before for the contestants to get to know each other.

“The Meet and Greet is a chance for the contestants to meet each other,” said Assistant Director of Campus Recreation Krisi Patterson. “It allows them to know who their competition is.”

The Body Challengeis a way for those who want to lose weight or just tone up get in shape through a 10-week program set up by the staff of the Health and Wellness Center.  The Body Challenge also helps people who have been struggling to lose weight become comfortable being inside a gym and setting up a regular workout routine.

“This will help get people comfortable in the gym,” said event coordinator Elizabeth Reichensperger.  “They will also begin to realize that no one pays attention to what they look like or what they're doing because everyone is there to workout.”

Even though the Body Challenge is thought of as a competition, it is also a great way for everyone to get in great shape.

“Although it is a competition, we want the people to look at it as a way of getting into great shape,” said Patterson. “Even though someone wasn't the winner of the challenge, we want them all to feel like winners because of how much weight they're losing, and how much better shape they are than when they first started.”

Assessment week is from September 14-18.  The final week, weigh-ins, will be December 2-4, and the winners of the challenge will be announced December 10.  An awards banquet will be held after the challenge is completed.
